Upgrade of the district heating system of the Szekszárd South heating plant by installing gas engine modules for combined heat and power generation and connecting them to the existing system.

Upgrade of the district heating system of the Szekszárd South heating plant by installing gas engine modules for combined heat and power generation and connecting them to the existing system.

Our task was the turnkey delivery of the upgrade, including part of the design in-house, supply of all machinery and equipment, architectural, mechanical, electrical and control construction, and commissioning.

Client: Pannon-Kogen Kft.

About the facility:

In the cogeneration upgrade of the Szekszárd South heating plant, two Jenbacher gas engines (a JMS 620 and a JMS 616) were integrated into the existing district heating system. The gas engines and their auxiliaries were installed in the existing boiler house in place of a dismantled PTVM boiler, with the air coolers and transformers on the area next to the boiler house.

With engines of 2,734 kW and 1,948 kW electrical output, the new unit has a total rated electrical output of 4,682 kW, which the local electricity distributor takes over at 20 kV. The heat produced is used to heat the circulating water in the district heating network. Depending on the operating mode, the gas engines can run in series with the boilers or independently of them. Continuous power generation is secured by an emergency cooling plant with a thermal capacity of 5,000 kW. The gas engine hall is a soundproofed room separated from the other spaces, with its own operational and emergency ventilation.
